Funk Project Dave AngellLearning Targets:

  • I can create two photos demonstrating shallow and deep depth of field.
  • I can explain technically how I achieved creating a shallow depth of field and deep depth of field image.

For this week’s assignment, you will:

  • take 2 photos of the same subject demonstrating both shallow and deep depth of field. You will use a classroom camera and (optionally) a tripod for this challenge. Your subject should be CLOSE to the camera.
  • Photograph your subject in Rule of Thirds

Example:

dofrotSteps:

  1. Choose an interesting subject and composition.
  2. Set up your camera and tripod (optionally).
  3. Make sure your subject is in focus.
  4. Set a low (wide) aperture for your first photo (SDF) (do not move the camera!)
  5. Set a high (small) aperture for your 2nd photo (DDF)
  6. Process the photos in Photoshop (adjust white balance, contrast, color balance, crop and straighten).
  7. Log into your Flickr account and link both photos in comments section of this post.

Learning Targets!

  • I can complete the brief review quiz at camea-sim.
  • I can begin to develop an understanding of how DSLR controls work and control the final image.
  • I can begin work on my DOF Rule of Thirds Photo Challenge with understanding about DOF.

Start out by doing the Depth of Field quiz (a handout will be given to you) at camersim.com.

For this week’s photo challenge you will submit TWO photos of the same subject. One will have deep depth of field (highest amount of the image in focus) and one will have shallow depth of field (minimal amount of focus in the image) using rule of thirds.

Using your Flickr account,  turn in two photos one with shallow and one with deep depth of field using rule of thirds. Your practice photos will be due this Wednesday and your final photos due on Friday.

Day 4: Photographer Profile Presentations

Learning Targets!

  • I can share a presentation I created and talk about the life and work of a photographer in front of the class.
  • I can answer questions about my presentation with knowledge and a clear understanding based in part on my research and presentation details.
  • I can actively listen, ask questions while gaining a new perspective, understanding, and appreciation for the art of photography.

Notes:

  • Turn in your presentations (due Monday March 23, 2015 this week).
  • If you are not ready to present this week, you will not be allowed to present and will lose those points.

If time allows we will do a class excercise for next week’s photo challenge “DOF with Rule of Thirds”.

Primer activity:

  • In groups of four check out a camera.
  • Working outside in groups one artist directs her group to line up in  a straight row.
  • Composing your photograph at an angle you can easily recognize each student make a picture at the longest telephoto range of the lens. Focus on the closest student at a range of aprox. 15 feet.
  • Make two photographs. One photograph at f/4 and another photograph at f/22.
  • Give the group camera to the next artist and repeat using the method above.
  • Once everyone has had a chance to make a picture of the group come back to class and import your photographs to your “D” drive using Adobe Bridge.
  • Share with me your results and others your results.

Have a great weekend!

Remember, it’s always a great day when you are making pictures.

Inspired by Lexi to share interior architectural photography.

The photographs above are from an interior decorating job I shot for InteriorsbySue. The first photo (left) was made without any color correction in the camera and without lighting enhancement. The second photo (right) was made with additional lighting and camera color correction.

What photographs did you make over the weekend? Share them on your Flickr page or, if you like, to the reply link of this post!

Exploring the DSLR Camera Lesson – Learning Targets!

Screen Shot 2015-03-23 at 8.46.03 AMIf you are done with your photographer profile presentation please go to the online tool at the link below:

http://camerasim.com/apps/dslr-explained/

  • I can use the aperture, shutter speed, and ISO controls to make a proper exposure and sharp image.
  • I can explain what causes a blurry image.

There are five lighting examples you will use. Calculate your exposure in each lighting example using the three camera controls (shutter speed, aperture, and ISO). Once you make a proper exposure without camera blur let me know so I can check your work.

If you have questions about the simulator or you are having problems making a non-blurry properly expose picture let me know so I can help you.

Due today at the end of class!
